December 1st 1913: the formal declaration
of Crete’s union with Greece takes place in
a most joyful atmosphere, in the presence
of King Constantine I of Greece and Prime
Minister Eleftherios Venizelos. At last,
centuries of resistance, blood and tears
were historically vindicated when the Greek
flag of the unification of Crete raised at
Firkas Fortress, Chania. 1η Δεκεμβρίου 1913:
παρουσία του βασιλιά Κωνσταντίνου και
του πρωθυπουργού Ελευθέριου Βενιζέλου
τελείται μέσα σε ιδιαίτερα πανηγυρικό κλίμα
η επίσημη ανακήρυξη της ένωσης του νησιού
με την Ελλάδα. Αιώνες αντίστασης, αίματος
και δακρύων βρίσκουν επιτέλους την ιστορική
τους δικαίωση με την έπαρση της ελληνικής
σημαίας στο Φρούριο Φιρκά, στα Χανιά.
